BOROVETS

The ski resort of Borovetz is Bulgaria`s oldest, situated in beautiful pine forests on the slopes of Mount Moussala.

Borovets is a popular package resort, attracting foreign skiers with its surroundings and good atmoshere. The resort also looks set to attract much needed investment as part of a major development plan approved by the Council of Ministers in 2005.  The project "Super Borovets" will double the total length of the ski runs and will further develop the infrastructure of the resort.

Several international standard golf courses are also planned, including one located above Borovets which will rival the best in the world with its spectacular views of neighbouring hills and mountains.

The Borovets region is attracting serious international money, and currently represents one of the most exciting investment opportunities in the whole of Europe.

Samokov is set to have millions of Euros invested in it. It is included in the ‘Super Borovets’ scheme, with plans for a new gondola station connecting the town with Borovets and Beli Iskar. There are also plans to build a new golf course, to be designed by Bulgaria’s premier landscapers, which will include a large lake amidst stunning water features and scenery. In addition, there will be the construction of shopping centres, sports centres and family hotels. There are also plans to connect pure mineral water to the town and to introduce spa facilities.  

SKI RUNS IN BOROVETS

The runs are mainly set among the wonderfully thick pine forests and are split into two distinct regions. The Yastrebets area is accessed via the Gondola cabin lift (20 mins), which also leads to the more exposed above-tree-line area of Markoudjik. Majestically overlooked by the imposing Mt. Moussala, the highest peak on the Balkan peninsula (2925 meters), there are three double drag lifts offering runs from beginner to advanced.
The Sitnyakovo area is accessed by chair lifts opposite the Rila Hotel, including a brand new fourseater and offers a good alternative for those in search of shorter intermediate runs in a more sheltered environment. The base area is packed with restaurants and cafes where the lazy or non-skier can easily spend the day sunbathing on the sheltered terraces, watching the world go by. It is also a good slope for keeping an eye on youngsters as hey first venture onto the nursery slopes.
